This authentic Sudetenland Medal, officially known as the “Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938” (Medal in Commemoration of October 1, 1938), is a well-preserved example of the award issued to German forces and civilians involved in the annexation of the Sudetenland. Instituted on October 18, 1938, by Adolf Hitler, this decoration was awarded to Wehrmacht personnel, SS members, and political figures who participated in or supported the occupation of the Sudetenland following the Munich Agreement.
The medal remains in excellent condition, retaining its original bronze finish. It features a striking design: on the obverse, a German soldier holding the Nazi flag leads a civilian onto a podium, symbolizing the unification of ethnic Germans with the Reich. The reverse bears the inscription “Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer” (One People, One Empire, One Leader), reinforcing the ideology behind the annexation. This piece comes complete with its original or period-correct red, white, and black ribbon, representing the national colors of Germany.
An estimated 1.16 million medals were issued before the award was discontinued on December 1, 1940. This decoration is a key artifact from the early expansionist policies of Nazi Germany and remains an essential piece for collectors of WWII German militaria.
A fine addition to any collection of Third Reich medals and decorations, offering historical significance and quality craftsmanship.
