This WWII German Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse) is an authentic example of the esteemed military decoration awarded for acts of bravery or exemplary leadership on the battlefield. Instituted on September 1, 1939, by Adolf Hitler, the Iron Cross 2nd Class was among the most recognized awards of the German armed forces during World War II.

This particular piece is notable for its maker’s mark “128”, indicating production by S. Jablonski & Co., a respected manufacturer based in Posen. The suspension ring bears this stamp, confirming its authenticity and origin.

The cross features a magnetic iron core encased in a silvered frame, adhering to the traditional multi-piece construction. The obverse displays a central swastika above the date “1939”, while the reverse bears the original institution date, “1813”, commemorating the award’s inception during the Napoleonic Wars. The accompanying original ribbon, approximately 8 inches in length, showcases the distinctive black, white, and red stripes symbolic of the Third Reich.

Measuring approximately 44mm by 44mm, this Iron Cross remains in excellent condition, with minimal tarnish to the silver frame and a well-preserved blackened core. The presence of the “128” maker’s mark enhances its desirability among collectors, as pieces from S. Jablonski & Co. are considered rare finds.

This distinguished medal not only represents a significant piece of military history but also serves as a testament to the craftsmanship of wartime German awards. It would make a valuable addition to any collection of World War II militaria.
