This original British Royal Air Force (RAF) C-Type flying helmet is accompanied by authentic accessories, including a wiring loom, headphones, MK VIII goggles, and a post-World War II oxygen mask. The helmet is in very good condition for its age; notably, the headphone rubbers remain supple without deterioration. The MK VIII goggles are also well-preserved, with clear glass lenses free from cracks or marks. The strap exhibits some wear, typical for an item of this vintage. The post-war oxygen mask is in excellent condition, with the rubber remaining flexible and free from cracks.

The RAF introduced the Type C flying helmet in mid-1941, replacing the earlier Type B helmet. The initial version lacked integral wiring, a feature that was added in 1944 to enhance communication capabilities. Early models featured leather chinstraps, which were eventually replaced with elasticated fabric straps for improved comfort and functionality. The helmet’s design includes rubber receiver carriers to house communication equipment and multiple straps to secure goggles and oxygen masks.

The accompanying MK VIII goggles, introduced in 1943, were standard issue for RAF pilots and aircrew. They feature a durable frame and clear glass lenses, providing essential eye protection during flight.

The included oxygen mask, though post-World War II, reflects the evolution of RAF flight gear in the subsequent decades. Advancements in oxygen mask design continued post-war, focusing on improved materials and better integration with flight helmets to enhance pilot safety and comfort.

This ensemble not only represents a significant period in aviation history but also showcases the technological advancements in pilot equipment during and after World War II. Its well-preserved condition makes it a valuable piece for collectors and historians alike.
